The papers can be written in
English, Spanish, French or Portuguese and have been submitted to be
presented at the 2009 SLACA Spring meetings in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Marc
17-21. The student should be a member of SLACA.
The award is intended to help two students attend the 2009 SLACA Spring
Meetings, which will be held jointly with the Society for Applied Anthropology in Santa Fe, New Mexico, March 17 - 21, 2009.
The prize consists of US $200.00 for a student registered in a graduate program in the U.S.A. or Canada, and US $300 for a student registered in a graduate program
in Latin American or the Caribbean.
Scott Whiteford and Michael Whiteford will present the prize during a SLACA event at the Santa Fe meetings. We encourage anthropology departments to support students entering the competition by providing additional conference travel funds.
The Whiteford Graduate Student Award in Applied Anthropology in Latin
America/Caribbean was created through the enduring support of Michael B. and
Scott Whiteford who have donated all of the royalty income from their book
Crossing Currents: Continuity and Change in Latin America to the Society for
Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology since its publication in 1998.
